The Hotel Macdonald in the 70s was a hub of activity not only for the hotel itself, but also in Western Canada for much of Canadian National Railroad passengers and hotel properties.
The Journal on April 27, 1971 had an interesting article on the large scope of the hotel's laundry operation in the deep bowels of the building's basement:
Also in the same edition of the Journal the Macdonald's Hearth and Hound nightclub (located in the now-Empire Ballroom) spotlighted an appearance by the legendary burlesque performer/singer Toni Elling, who had a wild rid of a career:
