Vintage Edmonton Film: Downtown Edmonton And Area (1952)




via The Huntley Film Archives, this 1952ish film about Canadian Oil being produced in Alberta is fairly standard and informative until 2:22 where there is a breathtaking flyover of Downtown Edmonton. The segment continues west down Jasper Avenue towards a stunning shot of the Hotel Macdonald annex under construction, with buildings where Frank Oliver Park roughly is today in the forefront. The segment continues into another stunning shot of a series of neon signs of dining establishments (including The Silk Hat in it's original location on Jasper Avenue, and The Golden Spike and Pig n' Whistle), then concludes with music by The Rocky Mountain Bluebird Orchestra at what looks like (I think) either The Barn or Moose Hall  Downtown.
