The fire at the closed Jasper/Klondiker/Jasper Place Hotel today (February 19, 2026) was the final chapter of one of the last working class hotels in Edmonton.
The Hotel Jasper opened in the town on Jasper Place on July 30, 1952, and was a Grand Occasion and major business for the town:
The Hotel Jasper changed it's name in 1970 to the Klondiker Hotel, though it's reputation of a rough and tumble hotel stayed:
By 2003 The Klondiker had endured decades of it's reputation and led by General Manager Jim Crumb hoped to reverse the trend:
